The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss program initially suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, although many people believe that they actually reduce a few pounds when following it. The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the amount of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts your body in a balanced state that is more healthful than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears alleges that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its best and, as a result, does not build up layers of fat. The main method of the zone diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, white onions and green onion) The onion and garlic family of vegetables is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is not much real proof obtainable, allyl sulfides are also thought by many experts to help with antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so are ideal for including in your weight loss program. |
