The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it enables fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, eg lamb and egg and cheese. On the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, weight loss regime. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including, but not limited to, cereals and pasta made from white flour. With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. Carotenoid foods (includes carrots, kale and tomato puree) These orange and green superfoods contain the carotenoids believed by experts be a key nutrient in minimizing the chances of contracting, specifically those cancers involving the lungs. The majority of these also help you lose weight, so should be a part of every diet. |
