The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the amount of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts one's body in a state of balance which is more wholesome than it normally is, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its most efficient and, as a result, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The most interesting technique of the diet is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6.
