The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially devised by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not exactly a weight loss diet, although some people claim that they really reduce weight by following this system. The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to control the levels of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts the body in a state of balance which is much, much more wholesome than usual, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears holds the theory that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, does not build up fat. The most important procedure of the diet is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. Lycopene rich foods (includes grapefruit, papaya & spiny bitter gourd) The phytochemical lycopene is a simple compound used to color foods and part of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. It is accountable for the deep red color of a good number of foods. Intrestingly, unlike many healthy agents, this useful phytochemical is not damaged if it is cooked, but is essentially improved by cooking. . Its key benefit is that it acts as an antioxidant and is thought to be an asset in the fight to lower the risks of contracting cancer. Lycopene is the most powerful carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with aging of the skin. It is also thought by many experts to prevent the growth of atherosclerosis. |
