Diet typesThe Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, eg pork and butter. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the atkins diet is that if we reduce your consumption of carbs, we will deplete our fat and we will achieve weight loss The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system first created by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a fat reduction diet, but many followers discover that they actually manage to lose body weight by following this system. The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is far more healthy than other diets, known as the 'zone'. Sears holds the theory that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its best and, because of this, does not build up fat. The most important technique of the zone diet is to monitor and control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. |
