Types of dietThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system created by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his nutritional system for his cardiac patients, as a result of his detailed study of scientific data completed on other weight loss studies. Examples of good foods include, lean beef, chicken breast, prawns, fat free cheese, peanut butter, lowfat or nonfat milk and some vegatables, like lentils, cucumbers and sprouts. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although highly controversial, it allows weight reduction whilst still eating many of the foods you love, such as fatty meat and cheeses. With this diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to burn into energy, it is the carbohydrates which are burned initially. If we cut down on carbohydrates, we will utilise our stored fat and we will reduce weight. This theory is divisive, not all specialists concur and some experts hold that it can sometimes be dangerous. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they actually reduce weight by following this system. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a result puts the body in a balanced state that is more wholesome than other diets, known as the 'zone'. Sears believes that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The main procedure of the system is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. |
