The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it allows fat reduction whilst allowing foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example fatty meat and eggs.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into carbs, it is the carbohydrates which are burned first. If we eat fewer carbohydrates, our bodies will utilise our stored fat and we will lose weight. Although tempting, the atkins diet is contentious, not all experts agree and a good number of allege that it might be risky.

The low-cal diet

In simple terms, low calorie diet states that if you want to achieve weight loss, then you have to take in fewer calories than your body requires.

The calorie defined?
The calorie is the standard unit for energy measurement in dieting. A 'calorie' is the the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree celsius. If a food type has higher calories, then it will provide your body with more energy when your body burns it.

Examples of low calorie foods include green beans, capsicum pepper, apricots, canadian bacon, and low-fat cheese.

Superfoods containing carotenes
(includes cilantro, turnip greens and tomato ketchup)
These fruits and vegetables have high levels of the carotenoids believed by doctors play a key role in helping prevent cancer, particularly of the lungs and stomach. Many also help you lose weight, so are ideal for including in your diet system.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
