Types of dietThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet first invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a weight reduction diet, but many people claim that they seem to lose weight by following it. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if one can gain control of the secretion of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is much, much more healthy than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a result, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The main method of the diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing food types and an indicator of the ease that the energy in the food type gets converted to sugar in your body. The believe is that slow release types of food (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to cut down on food without starving yourself. It is also very useful for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are useful in preventing surges in glucose amount. |
