Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes garlic, onions and welsh onion) The onion family of foods is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is too little definitive proof available, allyl sulphides are also thought by nutritionalists to aid in blood circulation, sterilization and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so should be included in your weight loss program. Foods rich in lycopene (includes guava, papaya & tomato) The chemical lypcopene is a natural coloring agent and member of the phytochemical group known as 'carotenids'. Lycopene is the agent responsible for the deep red colour of quite a few foods. Intrestingly, unlike many nutrients, lycopene does not degrade if cooked, rather it is genuinely improved by being cooked. . Lycoprene's most important value is that it serves as an antioxidant and is thought to help lower the risks of cancer. It is the most powerful fighter of singlet oxygen, which is linked with aging of the skin. It's also thought to prevent the progression of atherosclerosis. |
