Diet typesThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition system is based on the gi index, a list showing food types and an indicator of the rapidity that the glucose and energy of the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The believe is that long-acting foods (ie those with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satiated for longer and mean that you can cut down on food without feeling you are missing out. It's also extremely useful for folk with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in minimizing surges in blood sugar secretion. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system initially devised by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a fat reduction diet, although many followers find that they manage to lose a few pounds when following it. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts one's body in a balanced state that is more healthy than other diets, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears states that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its best and, as a consequence, does not need to build up stores of fat. The main procedure of the zone system is to maintain the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which emphasizes that one should consume "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston invented his nutritional system as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific data completed on other weight loss systems. "good" foods include, broiled ham, chicken breast, seafood, mozzarella cheese, pistachio nuts, nonfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, such as black beans, lettuce and mushrooms. The Atkins’ Diet Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although highly controversial, it enables weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example pork and eggs. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. |
