The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss regime primarily invented by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not specifically a fat reduction diet, although some people find that they actually manage to lose weight by following it. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you control the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts the body in a state of balance which is much, much more healthy than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up layers of fat. The most valuable technique of the zone system is to control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, onions and green onion) The onion, leek and garlic family is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is insufficient real proof available, allyl sulphides are also thought by nutritionalists to reduce problems with antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so should be included in your diet. |
