Diet informationThe Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow weight loss but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like pork and hard cheeses. With this diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston developed his weight loss regime for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his detailed analysis of scientific data on other dietary studies. Approved foods include, lean beef, skinless poultry, oysters, low or fat free cheeses, peanuts, lowfat milk and some vegatables, like lentils, cabbage and snow peas. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition and weightloss system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of food types and a score illustrating the rapidity with which the carbs of the food type gets converted to glucose in your system. The theory is that slow release food types (ie with a low Glycaemic score), keep you feeling full longer and help you to reduce your consumption of food without feeling you are always hungry. It is also extremely effective for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI food types are useful in controlling rises in blood glucose amount. |
