The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss regime first advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, however many zone diet fans discover that they really reduce a few pounds when following it. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you can control the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts the body in a balanced state that is much, much more healthy than other diets, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears holds the theory that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its best and, as a result, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The key procedure of the zone diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. Foods high in flavonoids (inlcudes garlic, cabbage, soy and chamomile) The nutrients called 'flavonoids' discovered in these natural foods show promise as cancer fighters. Researchers who have been studying the effects of flavonoids believe they may well have many health benefits, amongst them, anti-asthma and anti-platelet capabilities. The majority of these also help you lose weight, so you should add them to your diet. |
