The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not distinctly a weight loss diet, although some people discover that they actually manage to lose a few pounds when following it. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a consequence puts one's body in a state of balance which is a lot more healthy than usual, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears states that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a result, doesn't build up layers of fat. The most valuable technique of the system is to maintain the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 fish oils. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it enables weight loss whilst allowing many of the foods you love, eg beef and egg and cheese. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, weight loss program. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The 'science' behind the popular atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into glucose, it is the carbohydrates which are burned initially. If we take in less carbs, our bodies will utilize our fat and we will lose weight. This theory is contentious, not all specialists are in agreement and many believe it can be unsafe. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, chives and green onion) The onion, leek and garlic family is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is little real proof available, allyl sulphides are also thought to reduce the symptoms of blood circulation, high blood pressure and physical exhaustion. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so you should add them to your diet system. |
