Diet informationThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is based on the glycaemic index, a list showing foods and an indicator of the speed with which the carbohydrates in the food type gets changed to glucose in the dieters system. The believe is that slow acting food types (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you feeling full longer and help to cut down on food without feeling you are always hungry. It's also beneficial for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are useful in controlling rises in glucose levels. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan started by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which stresses that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed the south beach diet for people who have heart disease, as a consequence of his detailed analysis of scientific data on other weight loss systems. Good foods include, veal cutlets, turkey bacon, clams, ricotta cheese, peanuts, eggs and some vegatables, like kidney beans, celery and snow peas. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system first devised by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet fans discover that they really manage to lose a few pounds when following it. The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the levels of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts your body in a balanced state which is more healthful than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, because of this, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The key process of the diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
