Diet typesThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they manage to lose weight by following the zone diet. The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts your body in a balanced state which is much more healthful than other diets, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears holds the theory that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a result, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The most important method of the zone system is to maintain the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Atkins’ Diet Originating way back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it claims to allow weight reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, eg beef and some dairy produce. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the atkins diet is that if we reduce your intake of carbohydrates, we will utilise the fat we already carry and we will lose weight The brassica family, Superfoods that help with Dieting (includes Arugula, Brussels sprouts, Turnip greens and Chinese cabbage) These cruciferous vegetables are packed with vitamins (including vitamin c and folate), minerals (including potassium and selenium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents, isothiocyanates, and indole-3-carbinol. Amongst many other beneficial effects, some of these nutrients are believed to reduce the risk of cancer. |
