Diet information

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system first advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a weight loss diet, but some people believe that they really manage to lose a few pounds by following this system.
The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts one's body in a state of equilibrium that is much more healthy than normal, which is known as the zone.
Sears states that a body that is in 'the zone' is much more efficient and, because of this, does not need to build up stores of fat.
The main process of the zone system is to maintain the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index nutrition system is linked to the gi index, a chart showing types of food and an indicator of the speed that the glucose of the food type gets changed to glucose in your bloodstream. The theory is that long-acting types of food (ie those with a low Gi score), suppress your appetite for longer and help to reduce your intake of food without feeling you are missing out.
It's also extremely good for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are helpful in minimizing rises in glucose secretion.

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows fat reduction whilst allowing many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, for example meat and egg and cheese.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet created by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages the consumption of "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston developed his system as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a consequence of his detailed analysis of scientific studies completed on other weight loss regimes.
Approved foods include, lean beef, turkey bacon, oysters, mozzarella cheese, peanut butter, nonfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, like artichokes, celery and sprouts.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
