Weight loss dietsThe Atkins’ Diet Now nearly 5 decades old, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it allows weight loss whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, such as bacon and hard cheese. With the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is based around the gi index, a chart showing food types and a score illustrating the ease with which the carbs of the food gets transformed to glucose in your blood stream. The claim is that slow acting food types (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), suppress your appetite for longer and help you to eat less food without feeling hungry. It's also extremely useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are useful in minimizing increases in glucose amount. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet invented by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which emphasizes that dieters should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston invented his dietary regime for his cardiac patients, based on his analysis of scientific studies on other weight loss regimes. Examples of good foods include, lean beef, turkey bacon, prawns, feta cheese, pistachio nuts, lowfat or nonfat milk and some vegatables, like butter beans, lettuce and turnips. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet fans believe that they actually manage to lose weight when following it. The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts the body in a balanced state that is much, much more healthy than it normally is, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears states that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its best and, because of this, does not need to build up stores of fat. The main procedure of the zone system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has plenty of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
