Diet typesThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a fat reduction diet, although many followers find that they actually reduce a few pounds when following it. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts your body in a state of balance which is much, much more healthful than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The key technique of the zone diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition system is based around the gi index, a list showing food types and a score representing the ease that the carbs of the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters system. The claim is that slow release foods (ie those food types with a low Gi number), suppress your appetite and help you to reduce your intake of food without feeling you are missing out. It is also extremely effective for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are helpful in minimizing surges in blood glucose secretion. |
