The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet system is based on the gi index, a list of foods and an indicator of the rapidity that the carbohydrates of the food gets transformed to sugar in the dieters system. The theory is that slow release foods (ie with a low Gi score), will keep you feeling full for longer and help to eat fewer food without craving snacks all the time. It is also very useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are useful in controlling surges in blood sugar levels. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet system primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not expressly a weight loss diet, but many zone diet followers find that they really manage to lose body weight by following it. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a state of balance that is an awful lot more healthful than usual, which is known as the zone. Sears believes that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't build up fat. The most interesting technique of the system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes garlic, leeks and welsh onion) The alliaceae family of foods is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is insufficient scientific evidence obtainable, allyl sulfides are also thought by many researchers to reduce symptoms with antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so should be included in your diet system. |
