Weight loss dietsThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system initially devised by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not distinctly a weight loss diet, although many followers believe that they seem to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you control the secretion of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts the body in a state of balance that is far more wholesome than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears alleges that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up fat. The main method of the diet is to maintain the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure you get plenty of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst still eating many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example fatty meat and cheeses. With the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. |
