Diet informationThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system created by Cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston invented this diet for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his detailed analysis of scientific research on other weight loss studies. Approved foods include, broiled ham, chicken breast, prawns, mozzarella cheese, peanuts, lowfat milk and some vegatables, like chickpeas, celery and spinach. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition system is based around the gi index, a chart showing types of food and an indicator of the ease with which the energy of the food gets transformed to sugar in your blood stream. The claim is that long-acting types of food (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satiated for longer and help to eat less food without starving yourself. It is also extremeley useful for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in minimizing rises in glucose amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system initially detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they actually reduce body weight by following the zone diet. The science claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the secretion of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts your body in a balanced state which is more healthful than it normally is, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears alleges that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a result, doesn't build up layers of fat. The most important procedure of the zone system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils. |
