Weight loss systemsThe Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows weight loss but still allows you to eat many of the foods you love, for example pork and butter. On the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the famous atkins diet is that if we cut down on carbs, we will consume our stored fat and we will become thinner The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system first advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they seem to lose body weight by following this system. The science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is much more healthy than other diets, known as the 'zone'. Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, because of this, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The key technique of the zone diet is to maintain the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system started by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston invented this diet for people who have cardiac problems, based on his detailed study of scientific research on other weight loss systems. Examples of good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, seafood, cottage cheese, pistachios, nonfat yoghurt and some vegatables, such as green beans, cauliflower and sprouts. |
