Types of dietThe Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition system is linked to the glycaemic index, a list of food types and a score illustrating the speed with which the energy in the food type gets converted to sugar in your body. The theory is that slow release food types (ie with a low Glycaemic score), will keep you feeling full for longer and help to reduce your consumption of food without feeling hungry. It's also extremely efficient for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in controlling surges in glucose secretion. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system invented by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston invented this diet for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his detailed analysis of scientific research on other weight loss regimes. Examples of good foods include, veal cutlets, turkey breast, seafood, fat-free cheeses, pistachio nuts, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like chickpeas, celery and spinach. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system initially detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not exactly a weight reduction diet, but many zone diet fans believe that they really reduce weight by following this system. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if one can control the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a state of balance that is much more wholesome than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears believes that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, does not convert energy to unsightly fat. The key technique of the diet is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils. |
