Types of diet

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is reliant on the gi index, a list showing food types and a score illustrating the rapidity with which the glucose of the food gets converted to glucose in your bloodstream. The theory is that slow acting foods (ie those food types with a low Gi score), suppress your appetite and mean that you can reduce your intake of food without starving yourself.
It's also extremely useful for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in reducing rises in glucose amount.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system initially devised by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not exactly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they lose body weight by following this system.
The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a result puts your body in a state of balance that is an awful lot more healthy than normal, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone".
Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, because of this, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The main process of the zone system is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has high levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, such as meat and hard cheeses.
With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
