Ingredients
2 cup whole wheat flour, self-rising
1/2 cup margarine
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup walnuts, chopped
2/3 cup raisins
2 cup dessert apples, peeled cored grated
1 cup carrot, grated
1 grated peel of 1 orange
2 large eggs, *
4 tbsp fresh orange juice
Directions
Line the base and grease of a loaf pan with 4 cup capcity. Preheat
the oven to 350 degrees. Place the flour in a bowl and mix well, then
cut in the margarine and stir in the cinnamon. Stir in the walnuts,
raisins, apples and carrot. Add the orange peel, eggs and juice, then
beat well until thoroughly combined. Spoon the mixture into the
prepared pan, smooth the top and bake for about 1 1/4 hours, or until
the cake is well risen and firm to touch. Turn out on a wire rack.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index weight loss regime is based on the glycaemic index, a chart showing foods and a score representing the rapidity that the carbohydrates in the food type gets converted to glucose in the dieters body. The theory is that slow acting food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic score), keep you feeling full longer and help you to eat less food without craving snacks all the time. It's also extremely efficient for people with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in controlling rises in blood sugar amount. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although highly controversial, it supposedly allows weight reduction whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, like beef and egg and cheese. With the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The brassicas, Healthy superfoods that also help your Weight loss (includes Kohlrabi, Broccoli, Turnips and Horseradish) Altthough not always popular with children, these are jam-packed with vitamins (eg.folate), minerals (selenium and potassium, amongst others), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents, indole-3-carbinol and isothiocyanates.. In addition to their most other health benefits, the vitamins and nutrients in these are thought by many to help reduce the cancer risk in those prone to it.. |
