The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss program initially detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' believe that they actually reduce body weight by following the zone diet. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts your body in a state of equilibrium that is far more wholesome than normal, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears believes that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its most efficient and, as a result, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The most interesting process of the system is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. Cruciferous vegetables, Healthy super foods that help with Dieting (eg. Kohlrabi, Green beans, Tatsoi and Radishes) Altthough not always popular with children, these vegetables have large amounts of vitamins (folate and vitamin c, for example), minerals (eg. potassium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents and isothiocyanates. Over and above their most other health benefits, the minerals, vitamins and nutrients in these are thought by doctors to reduce the risk of cancer. |
