The Recipe Instructions
 

 

Ingredients

1 light & flaky pie crust, see recipe of same name
1 1/2 cup thick unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup honey
3 tbsp apple brandy, optional
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 lemon, grated rind only
3 tart apples, peeled & thinly sliced
1/2 cup all-fruit apricot jam

Directions

PREPARE AND BAKE crust according to recipe instructions. (See Light &
Flaky Pie Crust recipe) Set aside.

Preheat oven to 375F. In a 2-quart saucepan over med-high heat,
simmer applesauce, honey, brandy if desired, vanilla and lemon rind
until quite thick, about 10 to 15 minutes. Pour mixture into prepared
crust. Arrange apples in concentric circles on top of sauce.

In a 1-qt saucepan over med-high heat, melt apricot jam, then press
through a sieve. Use a pastry brush to glaze apples with jam.

Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool before slicing.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet is based on the glycaemic index, a list showing types of food and a score illustrating the speed that the carbohydrates in the food gets changed to glucose in the dieters body. The claim is that slow acting types of food (ie those with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and mean that you can cut down on food without feeling you are always hungry.
It's also beneficial for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in controlling rises in blood glucose secretion.


The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system initially invented by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, although many zone diet followers believe that they seem to lose weight by following the zone diet.
The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can control the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts the body in a balanced state which is far more healthful than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone".
Sears believes that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a result, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat.
The main method of the system is to control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take high levels of Omega 3 fish oils.
