The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet started by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that dieters should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his weight loss regime for his cardiac patients, as a result of his detailed study of scientific data completed on other diets. Good foods include, lean beef, turkey bacon, shrimp, fat-free cheeses, almonds, lowfat yoghurt and some vegatables, like asparagus, cabbage and spinach. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index diet is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing types of food and an indicator of the speed with which the carbs in the food gets transformed to glucose in your bloodstream. The believe is that long-acting types of food (ie those foods with a low Gi number), suppress your appetite and mean that you can consume fewer food without craving snacks all the time. It's also extremely good for diabetics, as the low GI foods are beneficial in reducing increases in glucose levels. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, onions and spring onions) The onion, leek and garlic family is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is not enough, definitive proof published, allyl sulfides are also believed to help with blood circulation, arteriosclerosis and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so are ideal for including in your diet system. |
