The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it supposedly allows weight loss whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as lamb and butter.
With this diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, diet system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including, but not limited to, cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The 'science' behind the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to burn into carbohydrates, it is the carbohydrates which are burned primarily. If we injest less carbohydrates, our bodies will use up our stored fat and we will get rid of some fat. This is the bit that is divisive, not all experts concur and many believe it is sometimes risky.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss program primarily invented by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, although some people believe that they reduce weight by following it.
The science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts your body in a state of balance which is an awful lot more healthy than other diets, which is known as the zone.
Sears states that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its most efficient and, as a result, does not build up fat.
The key technique of the system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils.

Carotenoid foods
(includes parsley, mangos and tomato puree)
These orange and green healthy plants are rich in carotenes believed by nutritionalists play a key part in helping stop cancer, particularly of the lungs. A good number also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your diet system.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
