Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, chives and welsh onion) The onion, leek and garlic family of vegetables is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is too little real proof present, allyl sulphides are also thought by nutritionalists to reduce the symptoms of blood circulation, arteriosclerosis and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be a part of every diet system. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime first invented by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many people claim that they actually manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The science behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the secretion of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts your body in a state of equilibrium which is a lot more healthy than other diets, known as the 'zone'. Sears holds the theory that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its best and, as a consequence, doesn't need to build up stores of fat. The main technique of the zone diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
