The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet system is based on the glycaemic index, a list of types of food and an indicator of the rapidity with which the glucose and energy of the food type gets converted to glucose in your blood stream. The believe is that slow acting foods (ie with a low Glycaemic index score), will keep you feeling full for longer and help you to injest less food without feeling you are missing out. It is also extremely good for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are beneficial in preventing rises in glucose amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime initially devised by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a fat reduction diet, although many 'zone dieters' discover that they seem to lose weight by following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the secretion of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids which puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is more healthy than it normally is, known as the 'zone'. Sears believes that if you get into this 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, because of this, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat. The most interesting procedure of the zone system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with high levels of Omega 3 fish oils. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, leeks and spring onions) The onion, leek and garlic family of vegetables is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is not enough, hard medical proof published, allyl sulphides are also thought to help with antiinflammatory effect, high blood pressure and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so should be included in your weight loss regime. |
