Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes eschalot, chives and welsh onion) The alliaceae range of vegetables is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is precious little real proof obtainable, allyl sulphides are also thought by many researchers to reduce problems with blood circulation, sterilization and physical exhaustion. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also low in calories, so should be included in every weight loss program. Super foods containing lycopene (includes grapefruit, papaya and rosehip) Lycopene is a natural compound used to color foods and member of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. Lycopene is the agent responsible for the deep red hue of a good number of fruits and vegetables. Intrestingly, unlike numerous other vitamins, lycopene is not damaged during the cooking process, but is truly strengthened by being cooked. . Lycoprene's most interesting advantage is that it works as an antioxidant and is believed to be an asset in the fight to lower the probabilty of cancer. Lycopene is the most potent eliminator of singlet oxygen, which is linked with aging of the skin. It is also thought by nutritionalists to slow down the development of atherosclerosis. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index diet system is reliant on the gi index, a list showing types of food and an indicator of the ease with which the glucose and energy of the food type gets transformed to sugar in your body. The theory is that slow release food types (ie those with a low Gi score), keep you satiated for longer and mean that you can take in less food without feeling you are always hungry. It's also extremely effective for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI food types are helpful in controlling rises in blood sugar secretion. |
